It’s undeniable that Turkey has amazing food! We all know of the delicious middle eastern kebabs and we know it’s on your food list. Here are some more vegetarian and non vegetarian options you need to try on your next trip to Turkey –
Pide
The Turkish version of a pizza! These boat shaped flatbreads are found all over the country and something you HAVE to get your hands on. The best part? There are more than enough vegetarian options in it as there are non vegetarian.
Gözleme
A popular street food, Gozleme is Turkey’s take on a turnover! Think flaky uneven dough stuffed with everything from beef, chicken or spinach & feta. These are delicious and the perfect snack for any time of the day
Köfte
Similar to the Indian koftas – the Turkish kofte are minced balls similar to meatballs. Usually made with ground beef or lamb, you’ll also get vegetarian versions of this. Served with rice usually, they make for a flavourful meal!
Imam Bayildi
This one literally translated to “Imam fainted”…we’re guessing it’s because the dish was that delicious! But the legend goes that he fainted when his wife told him that she’d used up all the olive oil. Yup, this one is not for the fainthearted. Stuffed eggplant with onion, garlic & tomatoes – soaked in copious amounts of olive oil. It’s truly a burst of flavours.
Börek
Savoury Baklava! ‘Nuff said.
This delicious flavy dish can be stuffed with meats or fets & spinach – every variety of it is as sinful and as delicious as the next!
Kumpir
Turkey’s take on Jacket potatoes! One can’t go wrong with all that cheese and roasted potato.
Stuffed with peppers, cheese, salad, dressing and so much more – this one is always a winner.
Baklava
It won’t be fair to end this list without our favourite- Baklava! Unlike Baklava from anywhere else- Turkish Baklava is fresh, warm, the perfect blend of flaky crispiness & the gooey filling. We’re drooling!
We don’t know about you, but all this talk got us wanting to pack our bags for Turkey! Let’s go.
